Experience
The Biological Park of Serra da Lousã is a 15 minute drive from the Hotel (by highway), and it’s ideal for families. Being the main goal of this park to help with conservation of those species that live or lived in the Portuguese territory, the Biological Park of Serra da Lousã is the greatest sample of wild fauna of Portugal. Located on the hillside of Serra da Lousã, it occupies an area of 33 000 m2 of the National Ecological Reserve.
Over the trails of the Biological Park you will find several species of fauna and flora. When it comes to fauna, you can get the chance to observe several species of birds of prey (eagles, owls, amongst others), grizzly bears (currently extinct in Portugal), bobcats, wolves, foxes, wild boars, but also various herbivores such as fallow deer, deer, roe deer, and goats, among many other animals. Along the way, you can rest under the shadow of chestnut trees, oaks, strawberry trees, and many other existing species of flora on the woods and forest.
The Biological Park of Serra da Lousã intends to promote biophilia as well as to raise awareness among its visitors – from school community to the public in general – of the biodiversity existing in our country and the factors that threatens its survival.
For every animal living in the Park, the technicians create a habitat with all the characteristics and essential stimulus in order to provide physical and emotional well-being, thus satisfying their tastes and needs. In order to increase continuously quality of life for these species, the Biological Park has several partnerships with entities, universities and polytechnic schools.
